Hi, babes! I am so excited to launch July’s capsule wardrobe today! June’s capsule wardrobe was a huge hit and I think this one will be too. Before I jump into talking about each piece, I wanted to share a bit about how and why I selected the pieces in this month’s capsule.
There were two main themes I focused on as I selected pieces for July. The first theme was summer – July is a full-blown summer month and so I wanted to select some pieces that were a bit unique to summer. This straw tote, these aviators and these pants all scream summer. Even though I selected some “summer only” items, they are classic enough that you can wear them summer after summer.
The other theme I tried to keep in mind was versatility. In case you are going to buy some of these items, I wanted to make sure you’d get good wear out of them. So, I really tried to pick pieces that can be worn now as is and then layered over in the fall. I wanted this wardrobe to have some longevity to it.
It should be no surprise that the items in my July capsule wardrobe are all neutrals. This is not to say you shouldn’t wear color though! If you are a color gal, by all means, add in pops of color with your shoes, your bags, or your jewelry.
July’s Capsule Wardrobe
DRESSES:
WHITE HALTER MAXI DRESS – maxi dresses are so fun in summer and I loved the look of this halter maxi dress. While this item is one of the few pieces in this capsule that is over $50, I think it it well worth your money. The quality is great and this is a dress you’ll be able to wear summer after summer. It’s double lined so it’s not see through and it lends so many outfit options.
WHITE TIERED JERSEY DRESS – I included this adorable tiered jersey dress in this month’s capsule because it’s such a great dress for summer and our current stay-at-home climate. The tiered style elevates the dress and the jersey material makes it crazy comfortable. I’ve loved wearing this dress this summer and love how easy it is to style. Wear it for a backyard BBQ or throw it over your bathing suit as you head to the pool.
BLACK JUMPSUIT – this jumpsuit may be the piece I am most excited about in this month’s wardrobe. The go-weave material is amazing and hardly wrinkles. The black dress from last month’s capsule was made of the same material. This jumpsuit was a new release for Everlane this summer and I grabbed it immediately. I think it is truly one of the most versatile pieces. You can wear it now as is, layer a top or a summer sweater over it, and then in the Fall you can pair it with a blazer or a leather jacket.
TOPS:
WHITE POPOVER SHIRT – I’m not a big button-down top kind of gal, but I think the look of a white button down top is just classic. This popover shirt gives the illusion of a white button down top without actually having any buttons. The v-neck is super flattering and I love the oversized fit (I stayed TTS). It’s a great top to wear with shorts or to layer over a dress or jumpsuit.
SQUARE NECK TANK TOP (BLACK & WHITE) – I just got these tanks in and I love how well these ribbed tanks fit. They are so flattering I ended up getting them in black and white. I love them for summer because they are right on trend with the square neck and they go with almost anything. These tanks will also be pieces you can layer over in the fall.
WHITE LINEN BREEZY T-SHIRT – In an effort to include some loungewear type pieces in each capsule wardrobe, I included this linen breezy t-shirt. I love the oversized fit of this tee and think it will be an easy one to dress up or down. Dress it up with white jeans, style it casually with cutoff denim shorts, or wear it as loungewear with biker shorts.
CREAM TIE-STRAP TANK TOP – I love this tank and the feminine, playful vibes that the tie-strap gives off. I think it’s a perfect top for summer!
ELEVATED V-NECK TANK TOP – v-neck tank tops are super versatile, but I added this one because it elevates your traditional tank top. It’s a nicer material and can be dressed up much easier. It also comes in a lot of colors if white isn’t your jam.
SWEATER TANK – I absolutely love the sweater tank trend for summer and had to include one. I included this one which has the cutest ruffle straps, but I also love this v-neck sweater tank and this one.
CREWNECK MESH PULLOVER – Does anyone else get cold easily? I always seem to be freezing in our house so I included a mesh sweater. I love the mesh pattern of this sweater and ordered one size up (M) for a looser fit. Layer it over your athleisure or with white jeans and a tank.
BOTTOMS:
WHITE JEANS – because it’s still full blown summer, it felt natural to include these white skinny jeans in this month’s capsule again. Although I have several pairs of white jeans, this pair is by far and away my favorite. For one, it’s under $90. Secondly, it has a bit of stretch to it, so they fit really well If you’re wanting some flattering jeans that are also comfortable, grab these!
CUTOFF DENIM SHORTS – y’all, I’m telling you if you haven’t already purchased these denim shorts, you need to ASAP. They were in my June capsule and they are definitely worth having in July’s capsule wardrobe, too. They fit so, so well. Honestly, with every wear they fit better and get a little bit softer. As far as sizing goes, I recommend staying with your true size if you want a slightly looser fit. When I sized down one, the waist fit perfectly, but it made the length super short. I found when I stayed true to size they fit much better.
WHITE DENIM SHORTS – because it’s heating up down here in Dallas I had to add another pair of shorts to the mix. I added these high-waisted white denim shorts from Madewell that are a tried and true pair for me. I got them last summer and they fit so well. They are a great length and you can wear them cuffed or uncuffed if you want a bit more length.
WHITE GAUZE PANTS – y’all know I always need some lounge-type pieces in my wardrobe, so I included these white gauze pants in this month’s capsule wardrobe. I actually purchased them back in April and have been shocked by how much use I’ve gotten out of them. I’ve worn them as a bathing suit coverup, as loungewear in the evening with a t-shirt, and for date night (on the back porch) with a cute tank top.
BLACK BIKER SHORTS – biker shorts are super trendy right now and I’m telling you, I’m here for it. They are so versatile in a wardrobe. You can wear them to workout in or you can dress them up with a summer sweater or cute tank top and some white sneakers. The pair I included in this month’s capsule wardrobe is super affordable and was rated extremely well!
SHOES & ACCESSORIES:
STRAW FEDORA – straw hats are made for summer. They are great to wear to the pool, to hide greasy hair and to style for date night. This brand will forever be my favorite brand for straw fedoras and you can count on this hat being in all of my summer capsule wardrobes.
LAYERED NECKLACE – layered necklaces are super trendy right now. So, while I never take off this necklace, I added this layered necklace to July’s capsule because it can be paired with any pieces in this wardrobe.
MINI STRAW TOTE BAG – this is one of the most “summer” pieces in my capsule and I love it. This straw tote is a perfect tote to wear all summer long. It’s a classic shape and will work summer after summer!
AVIATOR SUNGLASSES – these Karen Walker sunglasses will always be my tried and true sunnies, but I tend to opt for something cheaper in the summer. I figure if I wear cheaper sunglasses in the summer then I won’t feel as bad if I lose them or my girls knock them off me and they brake. This two-pack of aviator sunglasses are crazy affordable, very comfortable, and work so well!
WHITE TORY BURCH DUPE SANDALS – these dupes are crazy good and they are crazy affordable. I wore them most of June and am happy to include them in July’s capsule because they are so dang comfortable!
BLACK SANDALS – I love this black pair of sandals for how versatile they are. They can easily be dressed up and also work to wear to the pool.
WHITE SNEAKERS – the sneaker trend is still big, so I included this pair of white sneakers to wear with your athleisure or wear with a dress.
