As I was working on the July capsule wardrobe over the weekend, I kept coming back to some basic tees that I’ve had for years. Tees that have held up through fashion trends and tees that are able to be worn each and every season. They’re the tees I grab when I need a solid top and they’re the tees I want to wear when I want to be comfortable. Then it dawned on me that I’ve never actually done a post on my favorite tees. So, today I’m sharing a roundup of the tees I can’t live without.
PS – if you missed the June capsule wardrobe, you can catch it here! So many of the pieces will work all summer long!
what’s so great about a basic tee?
What is it about a basic tee that garners so much love and attention. Heck, how many country songs have been written about girls in a white tee and jeans? I think the appeal is the clean look of a solid color tee and the casual, fun vibe they give off. I personally love a good basic tee because it acts like a blank canvas. A solid color tee can be paired with almost any bottom and styled with almost any type of accessory. They fit my personal style, your personal style, and your best friend’s.
7 of the best tees every girl needs in her closet:
1. EVERLANE COTTON BOX-CUT TEE:
For starters, Everlane is one of my favorite brands for basics. They’re all well-made and super flattering fits. The Cotton Box-Cut Tee is a long time favorite. It’s the white tee pictured in the first image as well as this blush tone top. I love the boxy cut and semi-crop feel. It’s not cut high enough to show any skin and somehow is still flattering the way it lays despite being a boxy cut. It’s a really great go-to tee to wear with jeans. A great weekend tee!
2. EVERLANE EASY RAGLAN TEE
Another great tee from Everlane. I got this easy raglan tee this year and find myself wearing it all the time. It’s a bit longer than the Everlane box-cut tee and I love it in this tawny brown color. I think this color looks great with white shorts in the summer and a darker pair of denim in the fall and winter. It also comes in 4 other wonderful colors!
3. MADEWELL V-NECK POCKET TANK
Madewell is another great place for quality basics and this v-neck pocket tank might be the tee I’ve had the longest. I shared the white and grey version above, but I must confess I have it in 3 other colors, too. I would recommend sizing down one size for a more form-fitting fit, or staying TTS for a looser fit. I love the flattering v-neck on the tee and think this tee looks great as is, tucked in, or knotted in the front.
4. MADEWELL V-NECK POCKET TEE
It should be no shock that I also love the short sleeve version of the v-neck tank above. This v-neck pocket tee is a great staple. Again, the v-neck is super flattering on any body. I truly believe every girl needs a go-to white tee in her closet and this would be my number one recommendations.
5. EVERLANE AIR OVERSIZED CREW TEE
Earlier this year I was looking for an oversized fitting tee and landed on this one from Everlane. I sized down one size and it still has an oversized fit. I love the “oatmeal” color and think this is another tee that works well in both warmer and colder months. I also love the longer sleeves – super flattering!
6. EVERLANE AIR MUSCLE TANK
Another great tee by Everlane. This is a tee that has shocked me at how much use I’ve gotten out of it. I got it last summer because summers are so hot in Texas, but I ended up wearing it all year round. It’s a great tank to layer over in the fall and winter. Because it’s sleeveless it’s easier to pull off a sportier look with this tee by pairing it with biker shorts or even athletic shorts. You can then easily transition it to date night by wearing it with a nicer pair of jeans, a belt or even a statement necklace.
7. MOTT & BOW V-NECK TEE
I apologize for the wrinkles, but this is a tee that never gets ironed for me. This tee is years old from Mott & Bow, but they still sell it because it’s so popular. I’ve worn this tee so much that it feels like it gets softer by the wear. It is always the first shirt I grab for loungewear. Y’all, it’s so comfy! I do recommend sizing up a size in this brand. It can definitely be dressed up, but I tend to wear it for loungewear because it’s too comfy not to.
