Hi, babes! Happy first day of June! Super pumped to be back to creating capsule wardrobes and even more excited to be launching June’s capsule wardrobe today! As I’m sure you’ve noticed, over the past couple of months I’ve really gravitated toward wardrobe basics and away from fast fashion. Fast fashion is super fun, but not entirely sustainable.
What I’ve learned about myself is that I’d rather have several quality pieces that I can create multiple looks from as opposed to a closet full of clothes that I rarely wear. Since January I have been slowly paring down my wardrobe and I’ve been shocked at the result. What I’ve come to realize is that by having fewer pieces in my closet, I can see all that I have an in turn I wear what I have a heck-of-a-lot more. I’ve also felt more comfortable. By being intentional about the pieces I’m buying, I’ve invested in items that fit my body type and my personal style well and therefore make me feel more comfortable when I wear them.
So while I will still buy trendy pieces from time to time, you can expect to see more capsule wardrobes here in this little space as a sustainable way to help you create looks you love from pieces you already have. I am here to help you feel comfortable in your skin and your clothes. And to all my sale shoppers, don’t worry, my daily sale finds aren’t going anywhere. I’m a sale shopper, too and couldn’t live without a good sale!
THE MAKING OF THE WARDROBE:
As you know, I took a break from creating capsule wardrobes after the launch of my March capsule wardrobe because let’s be honest, no one was really dressing up during quarantine. But as time progressed and I (along with the world) started to get back to a semi-normal life, I started creating another capsule wardrobe.
The inspiration for June’s capsule wardrobe comes directly from my current situation and really the current situation for most Americans right now – it’s summer and there’s not a lot going on. With summer weather comes breezy sundresses and denim shorts, and with semi social distancing comes loungewear.
This capsule wardrobe definitely tends toward the more casual vibe as most of our lives are in fact a bit more casual. Few people are dressing up for events, large summer gatherings or fancy vacations. Rather, we’re hanging out at home, gathering in small groups in someone’s backyard, or spending a weekend at the lake, the pool, or a local beach. I wanted to create a capsule wardrobe that allowed me the feel more put together, but also comfortable. I want to feel cute and be able to play in the backyard with my girls. I want tops that I can wear with sweatpants or cutoffs but also dress up with white jeans.

JUNE’S CAPSULE WARDROBE:
DRESSES:
Dresses are such great pieces for a summer capsule wardrobe. They are easy to throw on, can be layered under a cardigan or sweater, can be belted or knotted, you name it! Dresses allow for many outfit possibilities and they are comfortable and breezy when temps start to climb.
EVERLANE LONG SLIP DRESS – this dress has been a go-to for me for almost 3 years now. It breaths well and can be worn in almost any season. I’ve included both the black and the blush version in this month’s capsule because I wear them constantly and know you will too!
EVERLANE TEE DRESS – I love a good throw and go dress and this tee dress is exactly that. It’s a great dress to wear at home or over your swim suit and then throw on a leopard belt in the evening for a more refined look. This tee dress is one of the best I’ve found as it washes well and isn’t see through at all.
LOUNGEWEAR BLACK MAXI DRESS – this maxi dress is insanely comfortable and super versatile. You can wear it as is, knot the bottom, belt it, or wear it as a swim coverup.
LOFT SQUARE NECK DRESS – I’m not sure there can be a summer wardrobe without a LWB, right? The square neck is a big trend right now, so I included this square neck dress as a wardrobe option. It’s a great basic to have for backyard hangs or date night and can be easily dressed up or down with your accessories.
TOPS:
LOFT SQUARE NECK TANK – Again, the square neck trend is a big trend. I love the cut of this tank and how versatile it is, too. I will say I normally size down in everything from LOFT, but stay TTS on this one because the chest seam will be tight otherwise.
LOFT B&W CAMIS – these camis are gold. They’re not see through at all and are super flattering with a vneck in the front and back. They can be worn as is or layered under something. They can be styled casually or dressed up. Solid staples to wear now and take into fall. The black and white a a must have for your summer wardrobe.
EVEREVE VNECK TANK – I’ve worn this tank (and the white version) for almost a year now. It worked well in colder months layered under a black or cardigan, and it’s perfect in the summer with shorts. I love that it’s longer, too, so you can let it hang out, front tuck it, or knot it. Lots of options!
LOU & GREY PONCHO – I love, love this top. I had a similar one in grey last year and wore it constantly. What I like about this one is that it’s hoodless and fitted enough to wear with more than loungewear. I plan on wearing this with denim shorts.
REDDRESS TUNIC – tunics are in and of themselves versatile because if you’re short you can wear it as a top and a dress. I love this one specifically because the way it cut feels so feminine and boho. You can dress it up with white jeans or down with denim cutoffs.
REDDRESS WHITE TOP – This top serves as a good warm weather lounge top. It’s super comfortable and not see through!
TARGET LONG SLEEVE TOP – I tend to throw on loungewear in the evenings and this long sleeve is insanely comfortable. It’s a great top to wear over sweat shorts, with sweatpants, or biker shorts. You can also dress it up a bit with linen shorts or jean shorts.
AERIE CARDIGAN – even though it’s summer, I always seem to get cold inside. So, I added this lightweight cardigan to throw over any of your outfits while at home or traveling somewhere cooler.
BOTTOMS:
AGOLDE JEAN SHORTS – I wish I could count the number of times I’ve shared these shorts already this year. I was hesitant at first because they’re a little over $100, but I kept hearing the best things. I finally go ta pair and I get it. They’re truly amazing. They get more comfortable each time you wear them. Truly, I love them so much I have them in a medium wash and black. They are the jean shorts I’ll be living in all summer. Stay TTS.
WHITE JEANS – June isn’t super hot yet in Dallas, so I opted for white jeans instead of white jean shorts. The thing I love about white jeans is that you can easily dress them up. They’re a great date night option and will elevate any top you’re wearing. This pair is super comfortable, has the perfect amount of stretch, and is under $90.
LOU & GREY LOUNGE SHORTS – softest shorts? Yep, softest shorts. It’s a bit too hot for sweatpants come June, but these signature soft shorts are a must have. They pair perfectly with the Lou & Grey poncho listed above, or any tee or tank you have on hand!
LINEN SHORTS – a great summer option for denim shorts is linen shorts. I got a pair last year and was surprised how much I wore them. Sometime simply having two different textures such as cotton and linen makes a statement in and of themselves. Linen shorts are easy to dress up or down, too!
SHOES:
Since my June wardrobe tends to be more casual, I didn’t choose any heels or wedges for this capsule. These 3 sandals will go with every outfit whether lounging at home or going out to dinner.
TORY BURCH PATENT LEATHER MILLER SANDALS – if I had to pick one pair of sandals to wear all summer, it would be these. They are insanely comfortable and they go with everything. Because they’re patent leather, they also look a bit nicer than a regular sandal. They also hold up really well. I’ve had mine for almost 5 years, wore them every day when we traveled in Italy 2 summers ago, and they are still in perfect condition.
WHITE SANDALS – I think a white sandal is just as versatile as black or tan and is a must have for summer. I have a pair of Tory Burch sandals I’ve worn for years, but I also love this pair for under $20.
TORY BURCH BLACK SANDALS – because of my love for my miller sandals, I decided to grab a black pair too. I love the mini miller logo and again, this is a sandal that is well-made, comfortable, and goes with almost anything.
ACCESSORIES:
BRIXTON STRAW HAT – it’s hard to find a good straw hat for under $100, but this is it! I wore a brixton hat all last summer and fell in love with the brand. Their hats are well-made, hold up after ample wear, and are super flattering. I love the color of this one (“honey”) because it goes with everything! It also shields your face from the sun.
SOLE SOCIETY CROSSBODY BAG – I’m a big fan of carrying a bag all season long. During the summer I look for bags with straps so I can be hands-free with my girls. I grabbed this crossbody on sale and plan on carrying it all summer long because it goes with everything!
DANA REBECCA NECKLACE – I’m a minimalist when it comes to jewelry, but especially in the summer. I like my jewelry to be dainty and wearable in any situation. This necklace is one I’ve worn for almost a decade. I rarely take it off. It’s a great wardrobe staple and can be layered with any other necklace you may have.
REDDRESS ONE PIECE – it feels wrong to have a summer wardrobe capsule without a bathing suit. I’m loving the belted trend this summer and think this one piece is a great staple. It’s sexy and yet doesn’t show too much.
KAREN WALKER SUNGLASSES – there should be no shock that I included these in my June capsule wardrobe. I have worn these sunglasses for over 5 years and plan on wearing them for the next 5, too! They fit so well and the tortoise goes with everything!
