The Best Way to Style Mom Jeans

Happy hump day, loves! You guys, today’s look features yet another trend I never thought I would wear in my life time – mom jeans! I didn’t exactly wear mom jeans when I was younger as I was born in the 80s, but my mom sure did! I love looking back at pictures of my mom from the 80s and 90s and seeing how different the fashion trends were. I vividly recall the whole mom jean trend and didn’t think it would make it’s way back around.

I was wrong though…They’re back and they aren’t that bad! When I was in NYC with my friend Lauren a couple of weeks ago, we stopped at one of our favorite stores – Madewell. We were having fun shopping sans kids and decided to have a little try-on sesh. One of the outfits Lauren put on was this top with these mom jeans. I honestly hadn’t given two minutes of my time to mom jeans until I saw how good they looked on her. Y’all, they looked so flattering! I was shocked!

So of course I did what anyone would do and tried them on, too. I’m slightly shorter and have a shorter waist than my friend so I wasn’t sure how they would look. Again, I was surprised that with the right top I could make them work for my body. I got so excited about them that I decided to dedicate a whole post to them in hopes that I can help you pull them off too!

My tip for styling mom jeans is simple – let your jeans be seen! The “trendy” part of mom jeans are the long zipper and the straight leg fit. So, don’t hid the sipper with a long sweater or top. Opt for a crop top, a cropped sweater, or a bodysuit. I went for a bodysuit to keep my top half from looking too bulky since I have such a short waist.
