Happy Tiny Tuesday, friends! Y’all, can you believe that school starts in 2 weeks?! There are actually some districts here in Texas that are even starting next week! Crazy! I honestly thought I would be sad when this time came, but I’ve surprised myself at how happy I am! I am so excited for Emma Grace to start kindergarten and make new friends at a new school! I’m excited for Abby to return to her class, too!

So as we countdown to the first day of school, we’ve started gathering up our back to school essentials. We’ve also done a little back-to-school shopping for clothes and shoes. Some items are new and some items are our tried-and-true essentials! I think the one essential that we seem to get year after year are these white velcro shoes. They are easy for the kiddos to put on and they go with everything from dresses to shorts to jeans! Honestly, we buy multiple pairs for each girl throughout the year. They also come in a pink color that’s on sale right now for $20!

The two main things I keep in mind when back-to-school shopping are these:

  1. Buy clothing that can be worn multiple ways. Kids grow fast, so buying clothes that will last is key. Buying clothes that can be worn multiple ways – layered under or over pieces – saves money, too! For example, instead of buying multiple jackets, buy one denim jacket that will go with everything. Stick to solid instead of patterns that can be layered under a jacket or vest. Stick to shoes like the ones linked above that are neutral and go with everything!
  2. Invest in school supplies that maintain child independence. This is probably the montessori in me coming out, but we try to buy all school supplies that can be used without teacher help. For example, we use bento box lunch boxes because the girls can open them themselves. We use the Contigo water bottles with a flip top so they can open and close them by themselves.

So, stick to our advice and shop our favorites in the collage above, and you’ll be set for the new school year! We hope all of your kids have a great first day of school!!
