Happy Hump Day, friends! I hope you’re all having a great week! Mine has been packed full of things ranging from speech therapy to blog meetings to a garden luncheon and more, but am plowing full steam ahead because Friday I get to sneak away for a night with my sister-in-law for a women’s retreat. In addition to this week’s craziness, I also managed to squeeze in a little time to be a tourist in my own city. Do any of y’all ever do that?
Trav and I are typically pretty good about trying new restaurants in Uptown and Deep Ellum, but don’t always make it downtown. This week I got to see the JFK memorial for the first time. Of course I’ve seen it and driven by it a million times, but I haven’t actually walked up to it. The monument is located right by the museum and was built to commemorate John F. Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963.
What looks like a giant white box is actually a cenotaph or “open tomb” designed by the American architect, Philip Johnson, to symbolize the freedom of JFK’s spirit. It’s truly a beautiful piece and since it’s dedication in 1970 has become a crucial part of Downtown’s landscape. You can read more about the design here and I highly recommend stopping by to see it the next time you visit Dallas!
Now, if you only stopped by for the fashion, then let’s talk fashion! But, before we get to this look, I have to let you know about all the amazing sales that are going on right now. For starters, Shopbop is having their big 3 day sale – 20% off orders under $500 and 25% off orders over $500. Ann Taylor is having 50% off everything, Banana Republic is having 40% off everything, and LOFT is having 40% off everything, too! Now is a great time to get some pieces to carry you through the summer at a discounted price!
One of my favorite brands at Nordstrom is Chelsea28. What I like about this brand is 3-fold – their soft fabric, the flattering fit of their clothing, and the very reasonable price point. This peplum gingham top just came out and y’all, it’s SO soft! Peplum is also one of those shapes that really does look flattering on almost every body type.
I paired it with this frayed denim skirt and my go-to mules, but the part I’m most excited about is this bag! Okay, so a couple of years ago I got a Kate Spade tote bag similar to this crossbody. I have carried that tote every summer since I got it and have been waiting for them to bring it back. Good news – it’s back! Well, not the exact tote I have, but so many fun new styles including this adorable crossbody bag. I don’t normally spend a lot on bags, but I carried my tote so much and know I’ll carry this crossbody bag just as much or even more! I just think the straw is a fun nod to summer and the black accents make it so easy to dress up.
