How to Feel Comfortable in a Wrap Dress

How to feel comfortable in a wrap dress.

Happy Monday, sweet friends! I hope your week is off to a great start! If you follow me on instagram, you probably noticed that I left town for 24 hours to visit my bestie in OKC. It was such a special treat to get to spend a little time with her sands kids. But, no matter how much fun I have when I travel, I’m always excited to come home to my girls and get back into our routine.

How to feel comfortable in a wrap dress.

The wrap dress. One of the most iconic dresses in my time and often thought to have been invented (aka made famous) by Diane Von Furstenberg in the early 70s. Did you know it was actually considered a symbol of liberation in the early 70s? It’s a classic style of dress that truly looks good on everyone and every body type. Short, tall, thin frame, full figure, you name, it looks good!

I love what a wrap dress does for a woman’s body, too. It gives us curves! Cinching at the waist, it helps to give us an hourglass figure. I also like that the overlapping fabric creates a v-neck, which I just think is one of the most flattering necklines for any woman. The only qualm I have about a wrap dress is that I get so nervous about the wind blowing the layered fabric resulting in me flashing the world. For this very reason I have kind of steered clear of the wrap dress.

I know you can wear a slip, but I always thought slips were made for my mother’s generation. I thought they were dorky and it wasn’t something I ever wanted to own. Then I got this dress – which I love, and I was forced to find a solution to wear it. The fabric is heavy enough that when I wore it, it didn’t blow in the wind. However, having toddlers I always have to be safer rather than sorry.

So, I ventured into Target a couple weeks ago (a favorite pass time for sure), to find a slip. Okay y’all, I’m not going to lie, I was pleasantly surprised at what my choices were. They weren’t dorky slips like I was picturing. They were actually kind of sexy. I ended up finding a thin, skin-colored skirt slip for only $14 that felt sexy and was comfortable. I hate to say it, but I’m a bit fan of the skirt slip now. I feel like it’s opened the door to so many new outfit possibilities, including the wrap dress (this one is under $55).

Oh, and if you’re looking at these photos and thinking – she never wears edgy black boots, you’re right! I don’t! But, these were gifted to me awhile back and not only did so many of you vote that I could pull it off, but I actually had a reader recommend putting them with an outfit like this! So, what do you think? Can I pull off the feminine + edgy look?
