fabletics black onesie

onesie: fabletics (available soon) | belt bag: lululemon

Happy Monday, friends! I hope your week is off to a great start! By the time you’re reading this, my family and I will be deep in the San Juan mountains tent camping! As most of you know, we go every summer and it’s one of our favorite vacations each year! We get to spend our days playing in the river, hiking, and just messing around in the mountains.

Back at home though, I’m sure you’re all familiar with or have realized a shift in both my nutrition and my typical workouts. Nutrition-wise, I started a new nutrition program a couple of months ago and it’s led me to make such a big shift mentally on how I think about food. I’ve developed a healthier relationship around food and have learned how to fuel my body with the right nutrients to give me the energy to chase two sweet girls around all summer long. You can learn more about it here.

I’ve also shifted the types of workouts I’m doing. I, along with multiple other women, are training for a SPRINT Triathlon in the later part of August. I’ve never done one, but have had the best time training for it! Although I still need my own bike, I’ve been using my ClassPass to take spin classes. I’ve been shocked at how much I’ve actually enjoyed cycling. I’ve also started swimming again, which has made my swimmer heart (I swam in HS) oh-so-happy!

Between these two things, I’ve started to really hone in on foods that fuel me, recipes that are fun to make, and my favorite accessories for my workouts. I shared one of my favorite summer recipes last week (see here), and today I thought I’d share my top ten fitness favorites with you guys!

top ten fitness favorites:

RUNNING SHORTS:

I am always on the lookout for comfortable running shorts. I know people swear by Lululemon shorts, but they squeeze my love handles in a way that is just not comfortable. After years of looking, I think I’ve found the perfect running short. These running shorts from Vuori are freaking amazing. They have a wider, adjustable waist band that sits lightly on your hips. The length is long enough for booty coverage, but short enough that they’re not cumbersome when you run.

BCAA Powder:

Lately I’ve been trying to learn how to better support my body as I train for things like a sprint triathlon. One of the things that was recommended to me by a friend was to take BCAA powder after my workouts. BCAAs support muscle development and maintenance, reduce muscle breakdown, and support lean muscle. I try to take this one with water after my harder workouts and it seems to really help. It also tastes really good.

BELT BAG:

I’ve developed a reputation in our neighborhood for running with a “belt bag” aka fanny pack, and I’m not mad about it. I like to keep my phone and keys on hand and occasionally pepper spray when I run. I’ve had this one in black for years and only recently got the white one. I like that this one is big enough to hold my bigger phone. I also like that the strap is adjustable so I can wear it tight to my body when I run. Then if I want a more casual look – say to my girls soccer practice – I can looses the strap and wear it across my body.

SOCKS:

I have said this so many times, but Thorlo socks are the very best socks to run in. They have the perfect amount of padding in them and won’t give you blisters.

SUPPORTIVE SPORTS BRA:

When I go for runs I like the girls to stay put so I’m constantly searching for a good, supportive sports bra to tame them. I know Lululemon has a great option, but frankly, I don’t want to spend hat much on a sports bra. Recently I got this one from Target and y’all, it’s great! It’s slightly padded, very comfortable, and keeps the girls locked down!

LOW IMPACT SPORTS BRA:

As I’ve gotten more and more into spin classes and cycling, I’ve started to pick up a couple cute light impact sports bras. Recently I got this ribbed square neck sports bra on sale. It’s crazy cute! I like that it can be worn under anything, but also looks cute on it’s own. Highly recommend this one!

ATHLETIC BAG:

With my triathlon training I’ve gotten back into swimming. One of the first things I realized was that I needed some sort of bag to put my goggles, cap, and towels in. I use this neoprene bag (under $35) as my athletic bag and it works great. It’s super pliable and if it gets dirty you simply throw it in the washing machine.

TANK TOP:

This tank top is another low impact favorite. I got a couple last summer and still wear them. They’re great because they’re padded. I do recommend sizing up one size though. I also recommend getting this one if you have a short torso and this one if you have a regular or longer torso.

ATHLETIC SKORT:

I love adding a feminine touch to my athletic looks if I can, and the easiest way for me to do that is with skort. This skort is my absolute favorite and so well made. But, if you’re looking to spend a little less, this one from Target is amazing, too! It’s a great length and very flattering on!

AIR PODS:

Let’s be real, air pods are essential to working out. If I have a shorter run or workout I typically listen to music and if I have a longer run I listen to a podcast. What’s your fancy?
