Happy Tiny Tuesday! Are you guys ready and excited for the holiday season? I can say with a resounding “yes,” that my girls and I are ready. We are taking full advantage of Fall – painting pumpkins, making pumpkin bread, and lighting fall candles. We are however even more pumped for Christmas! In fact, Emma Grace has already started talking about Helen’s return. Helen is our Elf on the Shelf FYI. We also may or may not have started watching Christmas movies…
It feels crazy to say this, but holiday parties have already started. From Fall Fests to Halloween parties to Christmas sneak peeks, it has begun! And with holiday parties comes holiday outfits. I’m not talking about your Christmas outfits, but simply an outfit that you could wear to multiple holiday outings. To me, the one type of fabric that seems to scream “holiday” is velvet. And, lucky for us, velvet is one of this season’s biggest trends! So, my girls and I thought we would share with you guys today a chic, modern mommy and me look.
I found this velvet skirt from Jcrew awhile back and loved the movement, the texture, and the holiday vibe it gave off. I used this velvet skirt as the inspiration for this look. Not lying, several days later I came across the girls’ velvet skirts at Target. Crazy, right? We paired our skirts with flare sleeve tops – another big trend, and our look was complete!
I love that modern mommy and me looks don’t have to match perfectly. When looking to create a modern mommy and me look, pick one piece that’s the same or similar and outfit the rest to simply go together. In this case, our outfits matched pretty perfectly, but that doesn’t always have to be the case. The other benefit to styling your mommy and me look around one piece – in this case the velvet skirt, is that it is easy to style it multiple ways. For example, we could easily create another look by pairing these skirts with chunky sweaters and booties.
