Happy hump day, guys! With the new year comes a whole lot of new – new resolutions, new diet goals, new life goals, and of course new fashion trends! As we look into 2018 I wanted to share with you guys some of the biggest trend projections for 2018. This is probably a littler nerdy, but I think it’s so fun to take in the trends for the new year and then watch them play out through the seasons. Another reason I love looking at the projected trends is because it gets the brainstorming going! Let me share with you a bit about my brainstorming process when it comes to fashion trends.
The first question I typically ask myself is “does this trend work with my body type?” I’m 5’2″ and have a super short waist, so unfortunately I don’t have a body that fits all trends. The whole crop top trend and extremely low cut v-neck trend just don’t work for me. It’s hard to get to a place where you can comfortably dismiss a trend, but it’s worth it. If a trend doesn’t work for your body it won’t flatter you.
The second thing I ask myself is “how will I adapt this trend to my personal style?” Knowing your personal style is huge because it affects everything you wear and it should give you the ultimate confidence. My style is “everyday feminine.” I like blush tones, neutrals, and clothing with feminine touches. So, I always look to see how I could add elements I love or incorporate a trend into my current wardrobe.
The next question I ask myself is “are their trends I just flat out don’t like?” I feel like with all the influencers we see on a daily basis it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you have to wear every trend. You don’t. Y’all, it’s totally okay to say I don’t like X trend and I’m not going to wear it. Stay true to you!
The last question I ask myself is one that related to my job as an influence. I usually as myself “can the average person wear this trend?” I know that when I post something on my blog it 1) needs to be something I love and 2) it should be something you guys could wear too. And the “you guys” I’m talking about is an audience full of adversity, different sizes, different colors, and different shapes. So, I try to stick to trends that I think anyone could incorporate into their wardrobe!
If you haven’t guessed by now, one of the big trends for this year is…logos. We’re talking about that logo tee trend from the 90s folks. I picked this trend to style today because it reminds me of my childhood. I can remember being in elementary school and it being such a big deal to wear a shirt with “adidas” written on it or a top with “Abercrombie and Fitch” written across it. Logos were a big deal then and they’re making a come back now.
Expect to see logos – big, bold logos – on anything from shirts to sweatshirts to shoes. Not only that, but be ready to see them styled all kids of ways. From the traditional athleisure look to street style to feminine looks. If you want to see how I styled another bold logo, check out this this post to see how I styled this Adidas sweatshirt to fit my everyday feminine style.
