The Best Winter Wardrobe Essentials For Women

What are your go-to winter wardrobe staples? I’m guessing we all have some pretty similar staples!

In lieu of a capsule wardrobe this month, I thought I would share winter wardrobe staples. These are items that have withstood the test of time and can be incorporated into anyone’s closet. These are pieces that work in any cold weather month. They are pieces that are worth investing in.

If you’ve been loving the capsule wardrobes, don’t worry, they’ll be back in March and feel free to check out January’s capsule wardrobe which was dedicated to loungewear and activewear!

Winter Wardrobe Staples:

LEATHER JACKET

A leather jacket is a must-have in your winter wardrobe. The cut is something that you can play around with, but having at least one leather jacket in your closet is essential. You can opt for a classic cut or choose something a bit trendier with a more feminine cut or a fun color.

CLASSIC BLAZER

I distinctly remember my mom telling me blazers were timeless when I was younger. I also remember rolling my eyes when she said this as I thought to myself “blazers are for corporate women and I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing one.” Boy was I wrong and boy was my mom right. Blazers are timeless. Not only are they timeless, but they can be styled so many different ways! You can style them with a dress, over a skirt, with jeans, or some cute leather shorts. The options really are endless making it easy to incorporate a blazer into your personal style.

NEUTRAL LAYERING TOP

I neutral top is most definitely an essential for your winter wardrobe. This is also where you can choose a top that fits your personal style. For example, I would recommend a good quality white blouse or white top that could be styled or layered with lots of other pieces. If your style is more casual, you can choose a more casual fabric like cotton. If your style is more polished, you could opt for a silk blouse. Either way, having a neutral top or two in your winter wardrobe will lend many outfit options.

SKINNY JEANS

Jean trends come and go, but I recommend a classic pair of darker wash skinny jeans for your winter wardrobe. First of all, skinny jeans look more polished and put together. Ripped jeans are fun, but sometimes you need to look a bit more put together. Secondly, the darker wash will give you the ability to dress up your jeans a little easier. Finally, skinny jeans are easy to style with any type of shoe – pumps, booties, over-the-knee boots, etc..

BLACK LEGGINGS

Just like a nice pair of jeans, black leggings should be incorporated into your winter wardrobe. There is some wiggle room here, too. You can opt for classic black leather leggings or faux leather leggings. I recommend opting for a quality pair of black leggings so that you get the proper thickness and so that they last longer. I have both a regular and a faux leather pair of black spanx leggings and I am so glad I invested in both as they have and will both last for years.

A CLASSIC DRESS

A classic dress should most definitely be a part of your winter wardrobe. Two silhouettes comes to mind – a slip dress and a wrap dress. A wrap dress is timeless and will always make a classic statement. A slip dress is also timeless and is very easy to layer over.

PAIR OF PUMPS

I pair of pumps is a must for your wardrobe. I recommend a classic pair such as a pair of black pumps. Black pumps are easy to dress up or down and can be worn for work or play.

POP OF PRINT

This is another thing I remember my mom telling me growing up – leopard print is classic. She was right yet again! The best part about this staple is that you can add a pop of print in so many ways. You can wear leopard print pumps, carry a leopard clutch, or add a leopard scarf to your outfit.
