Happy Hump Day, friends! There are a lot of us that sent our kids off to school this week, so I hope your family is surviving. Some of you are heading back to college, and some of you are just continuing the daily grind at work! No matter what life has in store for you right now, we can all agree that itā€™s nice to take a weekend off every once in awhile.

This past weekend we had an impromptu trip to San Antonio with Abigail. I know a lot of you followed along on instagram over the weekend, but I wanted to share our full experience here, too!

Last weekend Emma Grace, our oldest, spent the weekend at Great Wolf Lodge celebrating her birthday with her grandparents. Since she was going to be gone, we seized the opportunity to spend a little QT with Abigail. We decided to get out of dodge and let Abby explore a new city. As we were planning our trip, we realized that we had not spent even one night alone with just Abby. Crazy, right?

As we planned our trip, we tried to keep in mind activities she would like and also her attention span. A weekend getaway with a 2 year old looks much differently than a weekend away sans kids. So, we looked for a hotel that would provide top notch accommodations as well as fun for kids.

We stayed at the Hilton Hill Country San Antonio and we were so glad we did! Just this past Spring the Hilton renovated their rooms, dining, and outdoor space. Travis and I knew instantly we would be happy with the rooms, the food, and the drinks. But, what really attracted us to the hotel were all the ā€œfunā€ options for kids.

– day 1 –

We arrived Friday evening and had a fabulous experience checking in. The rooms were clean and newly renovated. Abby loved the marble bathroom and big bathtub. Haha. I think the thing I enjoyed most was about 15 minutes after checking in I received a text from the front desk asking how our room was and if we needed anything. I think customer service is a huge part of the success of a hotel and I love their new feature of instant and open communication.

After checking in we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at their newly renovated restaurant,Ā The Spur Texas Kitchen & Bar. Travis and I kept commenting on the depth of their menu. Their kids menu had multiple options appropriate for littles, and the adult menu had items ranging from flat bread pizzas to gourmet salads to steak.

Once dinner was finished, we went outside to explore. The outdoor area of the Hilton is hands down the best part of the hotel. We grabbed some chairs by the fire and watched Happy Feet projected on one of the outdoor walls. One of the neatest things we saw on the first night was that you can purchase s’mores packages and roast marshmallows by the fire! Abby doesn’t like s’mores, so we didn’t get to partake, but I know Emma Grace would have if she were there!

– day 2 –Ā

Day 2 was our most eventful day! We kicked it off with breakfast in bed and then got dressed. A lot of the families were heading out to Sea World or Six Flags due to the close proximity, but we had more low key plans for Abby. We drove to the Alamo, about 15 minutes away, and showed it to Abby. She didn’t quite get it, but it was still fun to explore! Then we took her down to the River Walk to explore. If you haven’t been to the River Walk before, it’s a must do! It’s basically a river that runs through the city with restaurants and hotels all along both sides. You can walk the sidewalks on either side of the river, or take a boat tour! Abby loved it!

Then we headed back to the hotel for lunch. Travis and I shared a charcuterie board atĀ The Spur Texas Kitchen & Bar and Abby had a burger! After a light lunch (wink wink), we changed into our suits and headed out to swim.

The Hilton Hill Country San Antonio has three pools on their property. They have an adult pool, a pool that most families swam in, and they have a splash pad type pool for kids. We spent half our time in the main pool and ended our day at the kiddie pool where Abby played with new friends. There is also an outdoor bar for snacks and beverages, which is a nice feature whether you have kids or not!

Once swimming was finished, we headed up to the outdoor courtyard to play games! What we found we loved so much about this hotel was that there were so many options of things to do on their property. So whether you were staying there to be in close proximity to Sea World or other San Antonio attractions or just for a getaway, there was something for everyone!

We taught Abby how to play Connect 4 and Jenga and so cherished time alone with her! She was hilarious and actually really good at winning!

We weren’t necessarily planning on dinning at the hotel for all 3 main meals, but it ended up being a blessing. It was nice to have such a nice restaurant on the premises for ease with Abby. Due to the variety in their menu, we were able to enjoy something new each time, too!

So, if you’re ever in San Antonio, be sure to check out the Hilton Hill Country San Antonio. It’s beautiful inside and out and is definitely a hotel we will be returning to with Emma Grace!
