Happy Thursday, babes!! I woke up with a big ole smile on my face and I can’t even tell y’all why yet! Eek! If you’re curious, be sure to follow me on instagram because I’ll be announcing on my stories at the end of the month what’s keeping this smile on my face!
In other news, Trav and I had a low-key celebration of our 8 year wedding anniversary last night and will be continuing the celebration this weekend with a staycation at The Fairmont. One of the biggest things we learned in 2018 is that making time to get away just us two is critical for the health of our marriage. Last year we snuck away once a quarter and we’re trying to keep it up this year, too.
We both believe date nights are so important, but for some reason they seem harder to come by with our schedule. We’ve also found that while date nights are fun, it’s way harder to truly unplug from the day-to-day. However, when we get away for a couple days, we’re able to move past our “mom” and “dad” roles and truly date each other again. It allows us just enough time to reconnect, which in turn positively influences our entire little family.
So, with our first staycation of the year just a couple days away, I’ve been planning some “date night” outfits. Lately I’ve been finding a lot on Amazon believe it or not, and that’s exactly where I got this high low top! There’s so much I love about this top – the puffed sleeves, the flowly layers, and the breezy high low cut. Oh, and it’s only $18 – can’t beat that! This top truly makes such a statement that the rest of your outfit can be fairly simple and still give off a sassy vibe.
I went full date night styling with this top and paired it with our favorite faux leather leggings and then added a touch of spring with this woven round bag. And on that note, I rarely shop at Anthropologie because I find you can typically find similar items at a lower cost elsewhere, however, y’all, they are killing it with their summer bags. They have so many cute summer bags and most of them are super affordable!
Since we’re on the subject of date nights, I thought I’d share two of our favorite date night spots! One of our favorite areas to spend a day date is the Bishop Arts District. That area of town – southwest of downtown, has the coolest vibe. There are tons of little shops and boutiques, a wonderful selection of restaurants (Bolsa is our favorite), and great places to sit outdoors and enjoy a drink. If you’re looking for a great coffee shop, I recommend the one you see in the background of these pictures – Local Press + Brew. This local juice and coffee bar has such a neat vibe and supports local artists and vendors. Oh, and their coffee is amazing! You can sit inside or on their quaint patio. It’s a must visit!
Our other favorite date night spot is our favorite place to grab a drink – The Woolworth. This second-story bar/restaurant is located right in the heart of downtown. The inside has a modern swanky vibe and the outside porch boasts of some of the best views downtown. Their cocktails are super innovative and one of them even smokes! This is a great place to grab a pre or post-dinner drink with your man or bestie!
