The long vest. It seems intimidating, right? I definitely though so and truthfully, I thought I was too short to pull off this fashion trend. This trend just seemed meant for super model bodies like Kendall Jenner. But, after reading an article from Elle on how to style a long vest, I thought I’d give it a go.
Elle recommended layering your long vest over a lightweight piece like a chiffon dress. Elle also recommended layering a long vest over a leather jacket if you need extra warmth as styled here. I really resonated with the first recommendation, but felt like I needed to style a long vest a little differently to work on my body.
In order for me to pull off the long vest and not look like I was drowning in it since I’m 5’2″, I knew I needed to elongate my figure. One of the best ways to elongate your figure is to stick to monochromatic colors and use your pants to create the illusion of a long line.
I went with nudes as we’re entering into Spring and opted for linen pants to add a touch of summer. The high waist and long length of the pant easily elongated my figure and pairing it with a nude tank just helped to continue to elongate my figure. As far as the vest, I found this long sweater vest from Ann Taylor and have already worn it multiple times. It’s heavy enough to keep you warm, but light enough to wear all through the Spring. It’s a great layering piece if you live in a warmer climate like Dallas, but aren’t quite ready to completely shift your wardrobe over to summer dresses.
style tip: purchasing pieces like linen pants can be a great investment – linen can be worn all throughout the Spring and Summer and will be on trend year after year; pieces that you can get a lot of wear out of are worth investing in!
