my 5 minute summer makeup routine that will protect your skin

5 minute summer makeup routine

Hi babes and happy Tuesday! Last week I posted about one of my favorite beauty products – the cleansing balm, and all the different ways I use it. After many requests from you all however, today’s post is alla bout my 5-minute summer makeup routine. Although it looks like a lot of steps, it’s quick, easy, and will leave your skin feeling nourished and protected.

When creating a summer makeup routine, I really try to focus on a few key areas. First and foremost, I want to protect my skin. Secondly, I want the routine to be easy to follow and take as little time a possible. Finally, I want my makeup to feel lightweight. It gets dang hot here in Texas and the last thing I need or want is caked on making dripping off my face.

As many of you know, I started switching my beauty products over to cleaner ones about a year and a half. I would say my skincare products are about 90% clean, but I still have a couple favorite non-clean items that I just can’t give up like this MAC lipstick (color: Creme Cup) and this blush (color: light, cool pink).

my 5 minutes summer makeup routine:

STEP 1: SERUMS:

COUNTERMATCH TONER:

I love this product because it minimizes the size of my pores, removes impurities, and helps hydrate my skin. I put this one right when I get out of the shower or right after washing my face. A little goes a long way, too, which is great because you’ll have your bottle forever!

VITAMIN C SERUM:

This is a super essential step for me because I have dark spots (melasma) that are triggered by heat, working out, and the sun. So naturally, my dark spots get worse in the summer. This serum immediately brightens your skin and reduces the appearance of dark spots. I’ve been using it for almost 2 months now and can honestly report that my dark spots have reduced significantly. Even if you don’t have dark spots, I highly recommend this serum as it helps to even out your skin tone.

(NOTE: this serum is low in stock, so if you’re curious, grab it now. It will be restocked, but it’s too good to wait on!)

OPALENS FACE SERUM:

Because I try and protect my skin from the sun in the summer, it stays pretty pale. So, about 6 months ago I added the Opalens face serum to my daily routine and I’ve found it gives me the perfect amount of color. It’s a gradual tanning serum (made with CBD) that helps to nourish and hydrate your skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. (I also put this on my neck and chest area)

STEP 2: MOISTURIZE & PROTECT

L’BRI EYE GEL:

This has been a game-changing eye cream for me. I use it both morning and night. It’s legit one of the only eye gels that has tightened my skin and reduced the appearance of wrinkles around my eyes. It’s also kept my eyes moisturized, which again, helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Lately, my allergies have been insane, so I’ve been storing my eye gel in the refrigerator and then when I apply it, it has a cooling effect. Anything to depuff your eyes, right ladies?

TINTED MOISTURIZER:

Again, because I try to shield my face from the sun, I use a couple of products (like the opalens serum) and this tinted moisturizer to add a bit of color to my face. What I love about this moisturizer is that is protect your skin from the sun (20 SPF), adds overall coverage, but most of all, it’s so lightweight! I hate having heavy, cakey makeup on in the summer and this tinted moisturizer is the exact opposite! You won’t even know you have it on!

TINTED SPF: (shade: light-medium)

This is the holy grail of my summer makeup routine! My friend Heather is the one that turned me onto this little trick and I’ve been hooked since the first day I did it. It’s a summer game-changer! Okay, so after your moisturizer is on, instead of applying foundation, you apply this tinted sunscreen (30 SPF)! I spray 2-3 sprays on my foundation brush and brush mine onto my face and neck. This is yet another product that will not only protect your skin, but it is crazy lightweight, too!

I think this foundation substitute is a great option for summer days. After all, we’re outside so much more in the summer and it’s all that much more important to protect our skin. It’s also a great option for pool days when you want to look decent, but you don’t want to wear any makeup.

STEP 3: ADD YOUR SUMMER GLOW

BLUSH:

When it comes to blush in the summer, I want it to be easy. Something I can throw on. Something I can keep in my purse and dab on whenever I need it. There are two blushes I love for summer time – one is clean and one is not. I used them both constantly last summer and highly recommend both.

Clean blush: One option is this cream blush stick. It’s one of my favorite summer products because it can also double as lipstick! The color I use is “hibiscus”  and this may be the easiest product to use. You simple roll up your stick and glide it along your cheekbones. If you want, you can use your fingers to blend it in, but you probably won’t need to. It’s a great product to keep in your purse as you can throw on blush and a pop of color on your lips in no time!

Non-clean blush: this gel-cream blush is another favorite and has a few more color options. It comes in a small tube, but a little goes a LONG way. I’ve had my tube for 3 years now! I use the color “light, cool pink” and love how easy it is to put on. Simply dab a tiny amount on your finger and rub it on in circular motions along your cheekbone.

HIGHLIGHTER STICK:

This Illuminating Cream Highligther is another one of those leave-it-in-your-purse, put-it-on-as-you-go products for summer! It’s a highlighting stick that can go with you anywhere and will instantly give you the perfect summer glow. Simply take the stick and rub it along the tops of your cheekbones, down the line of your nose, and then dab it on the middle of your top lip. It’s a game-changer.

STEP 4: CONCEAL

STAYING POWDER:

No matter what products you use for your summer makeup, you should ALWAYS end it with this powder. This mattifying powder is an invisible powder that not only sets your makeup, but it absorbs any shine! I get pretty greasy in the summer, so it’s been nice to finally fine a product that keeps my makeup from looking greasy in the summer sun.

STEP 5: DEFINE (**optional**)

I know that some people like to wear as minimal makeup as possible in the summer, so if you are good to go by this point then you go girl! For me, my eyes are so tiny and my lashes so short that I like to add a bit of definition to them. This is also a good additional step if you plan on touching up your makeup to go out at night.

EYEBROWS:

Because my brows are not 100% full, I use a brow pencil (shade: medium) to fill in the gaps and create a good brow shape. I then use this brow gel to further shape them and keep them in place. If I’m spending the day at the pool, I skip the brow pencil and just use the brow gel.

EYES:

During the day I don’t wear eyeshadow, but if I’m planning on going out, I typically use a combination from this palette and then these magnetic eyelashes to really open my eyes up! The lashes are reusable and the actual lashes have tiny magnets on them that stick to the magnetic eyeliner it comes with – super easy to put on!

If you noticed, most of the products I use are Beautycounter products. Beautycounter products are not only clean, but they’re crazy effective. I was purchasing so much that I actually signed up to be a consultant (you get 25% off all of your orders!). I never planned on having beauty parties or pushing my side gig on others, and still don’t! What has shocked me though about selling Beautycounter has been the extra monthly income it’s brought in (fun money for our girls). I’ve also developed some really sweet friendships via the women on our team. All this to say, if you’re at all interested in a side biz or making a little extra spending money, now is a great time to sign up because you can sign up for only $50 (it’s usually $98) AND you don’t have to buy any products to sell! Crazy, right? Happy to chat with you further if you’re at all interested!
