DIY face masks for kids

monkey see, monkey hear, monkey do

Oh how our daily activities have changed. Since Shelter At Home, I feel like my co-workers, aka my daughters, are with me every waking second and to be honest, we’re going a bit stir crazy. One of the things that’s helped us combat the crazy is to do a science project or baking project each day. This past week one of our favorite projects was making homemade nourishing face masks that were safe for the girls.

For years my girls have been so entertained when I put on face masks. Their favorites used to be the peel off masks, but lately they have been getting the biggest kick out of my charcoal face mask. They think it’s hilarious that it’s black and turns grey when it dries and all they want to do is wear one themselves.

Even though my charcoal mask is clean, it seemed wrong to put it on their precious, oh-so-soft baby skin. So, after spending too much time on pinterest, I found a safe, nourishing mask for kids; and, it’s incredibly easy to make! In fact, the girls had such a fun time making the mask themselves with little to no help from me.

kid-friendly, nourishing face mask

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 T honey

Mash up a ripe banana until fairly smooth. Next, mix in one tablespoon of honey. Stir together until well absorbed and apply. Leave on for up to 30 minutes. Wipe off with a warm washcloth.

Y’all, the recipe is so dang easy to make and the best part is your probably have all the ingredients on hand even during shelter in place! The girls seriously loved smashing the banana up in our mortar and pestle and loved being in charge of measuring one tablespoon of honey. I would be lying if I didn’t say they loved tasting it too. I mean, who doesn’t love banana and honey mixed together?

a face mask for mamas

Mamas, if you’re looking for a reliable face mask, I highly recommend this charcoal face mask. I’ve always been super skeptical of face masks, but this one has over 1,200 5-star reviews so I decided to try it. The salicylic and lactic aids help to reduce your pore size and leave your skin feeling tighter and smoother. It’s the perfect mask for women like me that struggle with congested, dehydrated, oily skin!
