The holiday season is finally here and it already feels magical! One of my goals for this holiday season is to soak up the big and the little moments with my girls. I’m striving to not let the “business” of the season consume me. I am pledging to try and stay present in each little moment with my girls; I want to feel the magic of the season through them.

I also want to create fun activities and experiences that will become memories or holiday traditions for our family for years to come. One of our current traditions during the holiday season is to spend evenings by our fire pit roasting s’mores. But, I wanted to create something new and festive for us to do this year.

I wanted something that would allow us to really engage with each other. I wanted it to be something that didn’t cost a lot, but also something that would make a big impact. So I decided to create an outdoor movie night!

How to Create an Outdoor Movie Night:

Pick a Projector & Projector Screen:

Creating an outdoor movie night is something I’ve wanted to do for awhile not, but I haven’t found a good projector or screen. However, several weeks ago I found this projector from Walmart and the reviews were great. I also found a projector screen that works inside or outside. Both are fool proof and were easy to set up and easy to work! Once I found the main items, I moved on to all the essentials to make the night feel cozy and comfortable!

Create a Cozy Space For Viewing:

This past year Walmart has become one of the places I go to first for home decor items. Their prices are reasonable and their products are well-made. It’s also pretty easy to shop; I found everything online and I was happy with everything that arrived. I found the cutest winter white throw blankets, a couple poufs, and the perfect floor cushion to act as a table. I also had this accent pillow and this accent pillow that I brought outdoors, too.

Okay, I do have to note a couple cool things about the poufs. To use them you stuff them with pillows or blankets or whatever you have lying around. You pick your comfy! Then when you’re finished, you simply empty them out, fold them up, and they store compactly in a sack. If you’re a mom, you’ll probably appreciate this as much as I do!

Make it Magical For the Holidays:

This is the best part! A family movie night is fun, but taking outdoors and making it festive is even more fun. My girls were on a father/daughter campout this past weekend, so I took advantage of the free time and prepped everything outside. It turned out so well and I know the girls are going to truly love it! Below are a couple ways you can make your outdoor movie night magical!

  • CREATE A WINTER WONDERLAND: creating a winter wonderland is fun and easy! Stick to winter whites – throws, pillows, poufs, etc. – to make it feel cozy!
  • ADD CHRISTMAS TREES: adding a couple pre-lit trees automatically transports you to a winter wonderland! This one and this one would make great additions to your movie night!
  • INCLUDE YOUR FAVORITE TREATS: include your kiddos’s favorite treats for your movie night – candy canes, popcorn, chocolate, you decide!
